Tighemi Brings Moroccan Flair To Miami Design District

Miami’s melting pot is vast and varied, but Morocco has never really been on the radar. Tighemi, a boutique named after the Berber word for “home,” is correcting that omission by re-creating the lifestyle vibe found in the exotic souks of Northern Africa. Founder Lisa Walsh discovered the country while working as a photographer years back and fell in love with it. She and daughter and business partner Lauren chose Miami for their first brick-and-mortar space after relocating here from New York. “It’s a great opportunity to engage with our clients and tell them about Morocco and the background of every single piece,” says Lauren, who plans to host educational and experiential events such as Moroccan dinners and artisan appearances at the store. “It’s a place that’s very dear to us.” Although it carries home decor items like pottery and handblown glassware, Tighemi focuses on clothing and fashion accessories, many of which are specially commissioned. Winter pieces include ornately embroidered gandoura dresses in black and white, woven evening bags in bright white leather and Italian silk caftans in various colors and prints. “Our caftans use 4 to 5 yards of fabric, so there’s a lot of flow and movement,” says Lisa, who also offers cotton sateen versions for the beach. “You feel absolutely beautiful and luxurious in them.” 140 NE 39th St., Miami, 786.536.7005
